Finals Day: Sunday 14th September 2008
Finals Day is fast approaching and this is the broad programme for the day:
2 pm - Mens and Ladies Singles Finals
3 pm - Mixed Doubles Final
4 pm - Mens Doubles Final
5 pm - BBQ, Prize Giving Ceremony and an opportunity to talk to Neil Murray about the coachingprogramme this autumn.
Kids and adults bring along your racket and find out what Neil can do for your tennis!
Timings are approximate and subject to change depending on semi final results. We will have use at least two courts for the matches and they will probably overlap, I hope this won't make it too difficult for spectators to watch and enjoy.
Men's Final
2006 and 2007 champion Clive Wilcox will take on Graham Mather, which is a repeat of last year's final.
Ladies Final
We have had some difficulty in getting entries for the Ladies singles this year but we will be making a final effort this week to get the competition underway.
Hopefully two finalists will emerge before Final's Day
Mixed Doubles Final
The Mixed Doubles final will be a two family affair and a repeat of two previous finals with Jason & Myra playing Pauline & Pete.
Men's Doubles Final
The Men's semi-finals are being played this week or next and just to remind you the matches are:
Clive Wilcox & Wilf Oatley v. Neil Murray & Rob Hyman
Patrick Toynbee & Pete Try v. Jason Pegg & Graham Mather.
Ladies Doubles Final
We have been unable to find a date for the Ladies Doubles competition so the Final looks unlikely to take place on Finals Day.
BBQ
The BBQ will be a very informal affair! There will be two or three barbeques available to cook your own food on so please bring along
your favourite treat. If you could also bring a bottle or two that would be very welcome.
Junior Coaching
Following on from his successful Summer Camps Neil Murray willbe available after 5pm to talk to parents or juniors about coaching opportunities this autumn. Plans are in place to start coaching on Saturday 20th September.
League News
The (near) final league tables have been published and our teams' performance has been a bit mixed.
The Men's A team finished top of Division 2 and will be promoted to Division 1 as champions - congratulations to Clive, Graham, Patrick, Steve and Warren.
The Men's B Team held their own in Division 2 finishing 5th or 6th depending on outstanding fixture results.
The Men's C team have lifted themselves off the bottom of Division 5 thanks to a late burst of form, but must wait to see how White Horse B fair in their last match before they know their final position.
The Ladies had a tough year and finished last in Division 2 so they will be back in Division 3 next year unless other teams withdraw.
